Jeremie Tronet grew up between the French Riviera and the Caribbean, where his father works as a painter.
He spent much of his childhood in the water. Surfing, diving and wakeboarding came before the sport that would become his profession.
In 1999, his uncle introduced him to a 3m foil kite and left it with him to practise. Kiteboarding was still a young sport, and equipment was difficult to access.
Jeremie spent his afternoons after school flying the kite on the beach.
He wanted to ride on the water but could not afford a complete set of kiteboarding equipment.
He began experimenting with windsurfing boards and surfboards, using the equipment available to him.
When the small foil kite proved insufficient, he decided to build an inflatable kite. His uncle, who worked in sail repair, advised him, and his grandmother lent him her sewing machine.
At around 14, he spent more than three months constructing a kite based on the Naish AR 3.5 7m. The finished kite flew successfully.
Radical shaper Gerome Caillet gave him an old directional board, completing the equipment he needed to start riding.
He entered his first competitions in 2003, winning events in Martinique and becoming Caribbean champion.
After finishing school in May 2004, he began medical studies before deciding to pursue kiteboarding professionally.
He travelled to the Dominican Republic to qualify as an IKO instructor. Teaching supported his training and allowed him to spend more time on the water.
International competitions and sponsorships followed, establishing kiteboarding as his full-time career.
Photography, filming and editing became an important part of his work during these years.
His travel photography and kiteboarding films appeared in specialist magazines and online publications.
He produced, directed, filmed and edited the kiteboarding and travel television series Ride Along which was broadcast worldwide. His earlier online travel films were published as Travel Series at www.travelseries.net
He later founded the JT Pro Center kitesurfing school on Union Island in the Caribbean. He also helped develop Duotone Academy from its early stages, contributing as a rider and filmmaker to its tutorial content. www.kitesurfgrenadines.com
