Photos and Travel report from Bali

Right out of the plane from Zanzibar, we boarded our next flight to Indonesia. This was 3 weeks ago, and yes I haven’t had the time to update the site since, but for my defense I’ll say it’s good news, this means I was to busy shooting and riding, preparing the next videos for the travel series.

We decided to spend some time in Indonesia, we flew to Bali where we stayed the first week of our stay. The island is very beautiful and it was a big cultural change for us after having spent one month on the island of Zanzibar, in Tanzania.

The Indonesian people are very respectful and friendly, you feel safe walking around the streets and the waves are just amazing.

My first impression after landing in Bali was, wow, this island is busy, there are a lot of people driving around on moto bikes, a lot of traffic on the main roads, and Kuta/Legian, the biggest most touristic cities are very dynamics with bars, restaurants and night clubs working all week. But as soon as you drive away from there it gets much more quiet.

Shopping is also pretty good down here, you can find all the major surf brands are very good prices in some very nice big shops.
First of all, if you go to Indo to kite it is to focus on wave surfing, don’t bother bringing your freestyle boards, you can find some spot for it, but there are so many amazing other freestyle spots in the world that it would be a shame to go to Indo and ignore these amazing waves braking all day.
Bali isn’t the best kite spot in Indonesia, but looking around, you will find some good kite spots. I missed regular surfing, so as soon as we arrived we took a taxi and stayed at Uluwatu, one of the main surf spot in Bali. The wave is braking down a cliff where various restaurants, bars, shops and photographers took position. It is the main surf spot so it can become pretty busy while surfing.
In Uluwatu, we met up with Tom Court who came down for the same reasons as us .. seaking some great swell.
The first few days were very cloudy with a lot of rain, but fortunately the swell was here so we got a few good days of surf around padang padang, impossible, uluwatu, all the mythic surf spots.

After a week of surf in Bali, we flew down to Sumbawa , east from Bali, where kiting is getting more and more popular.
We stayed down there for a week where we shot some of the Ocean Rodeo product shoots for the new surf series board. We tried to shoot some videos for the Travel video series, but unfortunately our timing was a little short.

Luckily we had very good wind conditions with the clouds finally going away.
We then flew back to Bali for the last week of our stay where we shot more lifestyle videos, hang out with the monkeys at the temple and had some amazing party in Kuta for my Birthday, with Linn, Tom and some friends … I’ll for sure remember this one !

Back from Indo and Africa, I just had the time to back up some of the photos clean a few shirts, and we are already on our way to Cumbuco in Brazil . We should arrive on the 14th where we will be staying for a couple month.

Stay tuned for the next travel series
